Your Skill Set is Not As Important As You Think in Determining Your Career Path

Have you ever witnessed the baffling rise of an individual without specialized skill to the top of an industry? What about the slow but sure rise of the least skilled employee to the top of a company?

If the world were a neat and tidy place the skill assessment test you took back at the beginning of your career would have clearly defined your path up to the present.

            Only it didn’t.

Neither is the world neat and tidy nor is it a function of our skills.

            It functions according to storyline.

Allow me to give you an example. A client of mine was a leader in the yoga industry in a country where the popularity of yoga was soaring. Yet he came to me for help determining his next career move.

You see, I am someone who can see the storyline hidden beneath a life that actually governs that life. I do this using something called the astrological birth chart.

While working with this client the astrological birth chart revealed a storyline that had to do with being a disruptor in the housing industry. When I inquired to my client about his childhood he shared the poignant story of a child of divorced parents who was forced to drag his belongings from home to home, losing many personal possessions in the process. Inquiring further I discovered that he had been invited to join a start-up aiming to use the latest technology to disrupt the nationwide warehousing industry in his country. He had regarded joining the start-up as a lark. I pointed out the parallel symbolism to his childhood involving housing and disruption—only in the instance of the start-up he had the chance to be the agent of disruption and not the victim of it, like in his childhood.

He took my words to heart and embraced a change of career that just felt right, even though he wasn’t technically skilled for it.

The change of career now resonates with him deeply, all the way down to the storyline that is the bedrock of meaning in his life. Not only that, the rewards of his new path far exceed those of his old one.

We are here on this Earth together acting out the storylines hidden just beneath the surface of our lives. The more clarity we have around that storyline the more confident we can be in our course of action, and the more we can appreciate the storylines of others. We are characters in their storylines, just as they are characters in ours.

If you feel called to overlap your storyline with the storyline of an astrological coach such as myself, it would be an honor to connect with you: https://calendly.com/astrologyjames/free-consultation
