Your Point of View Matters!

"Many truths we cling to depend greatly on our point of view," said Obi Wan Kenobi. Recently I was in a class in which a student dropped her full cup of coffee on the floor. The teacher wondered aloud if that part of the classroom was cursed; students always spilled something there. Another student speculated that it was the Bermuda Triangle of the class. Students gazed at the area disparagingly, all the more so the woman cleaning up her spill. I suggested the spills could be libations in honor of the gods and goddesses. Everyone seemed to like that idea, and the collective regard for that part of the room changed instantly from frustration to celebration. Pride and joy replaced the humiliation and frustration previously visible in the actions of the woman cleaning her spill. After all, the class was figure drawing, which is a celebration of beauty taken form; it only makes sense that the archetype of Beauty (or the goddess of Beauty) be thanked with an offering.
